What You Want to Know About Dog Training and Behavior

We love our dogs as members of our family. Some understanding of dog training and behavior is needed by dog guardians in order for their dogs to function well in our homes. Not being human, our dogs don’t always understand how we want them to behave. When they come into our homes, they have nothing but their instincts to go on. It’s up to us to teach them the proper behaviors that dogs need to display when living in our human world.

Many years ago, I had a dog that displayed aggressive behavior; not because he had been mistreated, nor because he had been urged to fight. He became aggressive, because I didn’t have the correct information on how to train him to be a good canine citizen. I had taken him to a basic dog obedience class when he was young, and he was a star pupil in the training ring. However, I did not leave the class with the tools and understanding that I needed to make my dog a good canine citizen I also didn't like the inhumane techniques the trainer told us to use as solutions for dog behavior issues, and I therefore was afraid to ask him questions about my dog's behavior.

I spent a good amount of time and money learning how to help that dog, and I want to share the information that I have learned about dog training, dog psychology, and dog behavior with as many people as possible. I have spent over 16 years as a dog behavior specialist helping others with their dogs, and I want to help you.
